Naknek River Camp 2014 Hosted by Mike Manzardo

Mike returned from hosting a week long trip to Alaska's Naknek River Camp with lodge owner Jim Johnson. A great time was had as everyone caught lots of Bows, Dolliies and Silvers. Bear sightings were an everyday occurrence and duck hunting was phenomenal.  Plateau Fly Shop will be hosting another trip in September 2015. We already have 15 spots booked and have room for 9 more. If you have any interest, please let us know (417-849-1667) and we will get the details to you. - Mike Manzardo

Venice LA 2014

Ashley, Bud, Shane, Mike and I took a week and went to Venice Louisiana in search of redfish.  A great trip ensued with copious amounts of fish, libations, and laughter.

Carpapalooza 2014 Tournament Results

In a stunning finale and with a production value similar to a B.A.S.S. sanctioned event, The Carpapalooza "Measure In" results are final and it came down to the last fish!  In this much anticipated result between two competitive yet dudelike rivals, Mike Kromrey barely edged Greg Laughlin as Mike won the ding ol dang ol Carpapalooza tournament with a total of three fish measuring 81" to Greg's three fish measuring 80".

Tournament Results

1st Place:    Mike Kromrey 81" - Redington Predator #7 and RIO Outbound ShortWF7F

2nd Place:    Greg Laughlin 80" - Galvan Rush Light 8 Fly Reel

3rd Place:    Zac Beussink 64" Simms Vapor Boots

4th Place:  Zach Larssen 51" Fishpond Nimbus Guide Pack

Greg Laughlin also won the Plateau Fly Shop Hat Carp Pic prize of a Plateau Soft Side Cooler and Plateau Duffleupagus.  Stylin my man!

It was a really fun tournament in which everyone both had a great time and were equally impressed with the wariness of these fish.  It was interesting to note 95% of the fish submitted for the tournament were caught by wade fishermen.  The average fish was around 25" and most of them ate crawdaddy / nymph patterns.  This one fell to Luke's Headstand Carp Fly.

Mike's winning 29"er

We'ld like to thank our sponspors including Redington Fly Rods, RIO Fly Line, Galvan Fly Reels, Simms & Fishpond.

The Carpapalooza was also a fund raising event and we raised some good monies for Project Healing Waters.

And, Rob Merritt won the 84 carp flies and fly box!

A BIG THANK YOU to all the participants of the tournament and raffle.  We'll definitely do this event again next year!

Carp Skiff

I looked at my boat last year and figured it was time for a little Nip & Tuck.  She looked sad as she was being utilized for rug storage......

 Tear down begins

Then this happens

It's the Ozarks.  Wait a week and the snow will be gone.  Next up is the trailer tear down.

Got 'er torn down and sandblasted at Crump Sandblasting up on Commercial Street.  Talk to Randy 1956 E Commercial St, Springfield, MO 65803
(417) 831-4727

Went to paint the trailer with Herculiner on a 3 degree night, so, I brought out the Eye of Sauron to heat my unheated garage.

A couple of coats and she's ready for new bunks.  Recarpeted the bunks with marine grade carpet from Surplus City.

Looking better-ish.  Trailer was rewired with 3 wire extension cord....worked like a charm.

Time to paint the outside of the boat.  A light sanding, brush wash, dry and aluminium primer to start.

Two cans primed her well.

Then two coats of exterior oil based paint with a roll and tip.

Looking better-er

Time for decks.  3/4" exterior plywood to add some weight to the boat so it wouldn't be as effected by the wind.

Let's get a trolling motor on her.

Oh yeah, a removable poling platform.  An incredible job completed by Rusty Dukes @ D&D Welding in Buffalo.  Give them a call if you ever have any fabrication needs.  They are outstanding.  417-267-2224

Finished the interior aluminum with the same exterior paint used on the bottom of the boat.  Finished the decks with Tuff Coat from Bass Pro....the jury is still out on it.....
